Störungsursachen Silo

Typical causes and effects of a low-performing silo operation

1. The risks of the bulk material properties are underestimated

2. The wrong silo geometry creates "dead zones" where the bulk material remains motionless, its fine particles solidifies and it adheres to the silo walls

3. Because of the cakings a shaft is formed which only allows funnel flow

4. The funnel flow causes a demixing (segregation) of the bulk material and creates additional cakings

5. The First-in-first-out-prozess does not take place

6. The force of gravity alone or other technical measures can not activate the bulk material

7. The increasing cakings may finally reduce the outlet cross section and lead to a bridge formation

8. The size of the outlet and the speed of the following bulk conveyor determine the discharge volume just passively and hardly variable

Availability of the silo decreases rapidly and frequently below 20 %
